RE: Direct TV with 2 satellite dishes

I don't understand why everyone has two dishes!!
Only one is needed to pick up DTV and locals.
Both come in on one dish while aimed at the bird.
If you're out of range for locals on DTV ususally your antennea
will pickup local(network) stations
I assume it's the location we happen to be compared to the birds. If you look at both the dishes on my house they are pointed a good amount different. I think one dish can't get both birds at the same time.

RE: Direct TV with 2 satellite dishes

Your local channels are spot beamed from the satellite, so once you get outside the 200 mile diameter spot beam, you will no longer receive them regardless of your antenna setup.
john
I understand this. I even mentioned this in my original post.
My question is how do I aim my SINGLE LNB dish at the bird that sends the local channels. When i go to the receiver and aim it as directed it isn't for the local channels.

Direct TV with 2 satellite dishes

I live in IA and everyone who has Direct TV and locals have two satellite dishes. I don't have HD so what my setup is at my house is two round dishes. One for locals and one for the rest. If you have HD then from what I see you have a bigger oval dish but you still have the round one for the locals. Both dishes are pointed pretty different.
OK the point of this post is I have one round dish I take with me in the RV. I don't have a problem getting it setup for the non local channels. What I want to know it how do I go about getting it aimed so I can view my locals. I realize I won't receive both network and locals at the same time. I'm fine with that. I want to be able to watch NASCAR when it's on FOX. I realize if you are to far away from home you can't get locals but where we camp it's 20 miles from home.

RE: SANITIZE

I use 1 oz bleach for every 7 gallons of water in fresh water tank. Run water with pump until bleach is smelled at each faucet. Let sit at least 4 hours, but not over 8, and then flush with fresh water. I've been told that the bleach mixture will damage the rubber washers if left in the system too long.
So you fill the whole fresh water tank full of the bleach solution?

RE: Curiosity question

Because they like all of the comforts that come with them? .
If they want all the comforts of home why do they not want TV?
Do you really think you will get a straight answer without starting a big battle? :R You will wind up with ten pages of the same answers that get poeted every time this question is asked.
How is this statment starting a battle?

Curiosity question

Everyone has their reasons why they like to camp, RV or whatever term you want to use. Out of curiosity I want to ask this question....
I'll often read posts about satellite or TV's in general and there usually is always several posters that reply they don't have a TV or satellite because they are there to camp and are outside all the time. They don't understand why you'd want to have these items. What I find humorous about this statement is a good number of these comments come from people who in there signature has 30+ foot travel trailer with slides or a big fancy 5er. If these people are outside all the time why such big and fancy rigs?

RE: Gas Mileage and size of rig?

I get 11 MPG with my Ford Ranger with the 3.0 v6 towing the Fleetwood Terry 20 foot trailer pictured in my signature.
I also use a Chevrolet Silvarado 1500 Crew Cab with a 5.3 V8 to tow the trailer on trips through the rockies.
It gets 11 MPG towing the trailer, same as my small truck.
I don't think it matters much what the length of the trailer is, it is all about overcoming the wind resistance.
I'm just curious why you wouldn't use the bigger truck all the time if it gets the same millage?

RE: new owners finance rates

Just bought a new TT. Dealer was 7.5% up to 12 years. My credit union did it for 5.24% for up to 10 years. I did it for 5 years.

New Jayco 22FB

Just bought a new Jayco 22FB. What stinks is it's staying at the dealer until April or May 80 miles away. :( I have an old worn down shed that gets torn down and a contractor that is pouring a slab when weather permits to park it on. I realize this is a small one compared to what I see a lot on here has. Last year was our first time ever owning a RV and as long as we enjoy it like we have up until now we'll upgrade as time goes on to bigger and better things. I have been thinking about RVing nonstop since the last time out in September. Now with getting a new one spring can't come soon enough. We have our first trip set up for Memorial Day weekend. I'd like to get out before that but it all depends on when we get the parking spot done to park it on. It really stinks getting a new one and not even being able to look at it.

What is the actual length?

I just bought a Jayco Jay Flight 22FB. The dealers web sight says it's 23' the Jayco Brochure says 26'. I realize it's 23' livable and 26' total length. When someone asks the size is it 23" ' or 26'?

Enclosed underbelly

I just bought a 2008 Jayco Jay Flight 22FB. The one we liked had the insulated heated enclosed underbelly. I have a couple questions about this.
1. How is it heated? Just when the furnace is on?
2. How cold of temps can we camp in? If it's freezing out then wouldn't we have to winterize ASAP when done?
I guess I'm not understanding what the advantage of this is unless one is living in the camper and has the heat on all the time.

RE: Jay Feather verses Jay Flight

I want to thank everyone for their replies. I traded the Jay Feather 197 for the Jay Flight 22FB. I wish I would've went with this one to begin with but hindsight is always 20/20. Warm weather can't come soon enough!

RE: What will a 1994 Chevy K1500 pull?

I bought the 22FB. 4080 pounds unloaded. I pick it up in a couple weeks. Will give an update on how the trip home goes. The RV dealership is about 90 miles from my house. This is the only trip I'll take with it until spring so I really won't have the feel for things until I get to use it more.

Three piece Reese hitch

I have a chance to get a slightly used Reese hitch for free. It's rated at 7000 pounds or 12000 pounds with WD. The question I have is this one has the ends bolted on. In other words it's three pieces. The tube and two brackets. The previous hitches I have had in the past where all welded. Is there any reason I should stay away from it? Is this pretty common to be bolted together?

What will a 1994 Chevy K1500 pull?

I have a 1994 Chevy K1500 extra cab short bed 5.7 engine. It's a Z71 and I have no idea what gears are in it. What weight trailer will this pull? I'm talking comfortably pull. I have the owners manual and I don't see it listed anywhere in it. The door says GVWR 6200. Is this what I'm looking for?
I'm looking at a Jayco Jay Flight 22B and the 26BH. Weight is 4080 & 4445 respectively.
